Hello, my name is Tony and I love food!
I grew up and live in St. Louis, Missouri. I enjoy exploring the local food scene as well trying my hand in the kitchen. I am not an expert or a “foodie” but am passionate about sharing what I love about eating, drinking and cooking.
What started out as waiting around to lick the bowl when mom was making a cake turned in to actually helping prepare the cake which led to a love of baking and cooking in general. At 15 my first job was at a banquet hall, The White House Reception Rooms. It was a friend of mine’s parent’s operation. We cooked, we cleaned, we cleared and broke down tables, took out trash, worked the coat room, hauled beer kegs, and just about everything and we had a blast. That was something that always seemed to be present at any place I worked there or after, even in my current job, fun! Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t always roses but on some level we always had fun. Then again the only jobs I have had are food and radio so it stands to reason. Both professions have provided me with many opportunities to make people happy or show them a good time and isn’t that what we all want?
After 5 years of the banquet hall, there was the proverbial pizza joint Cecil Whitaker’s, some culinary classes at Forest Park, about 3 great years at Sunset Country Club and a miserable two week experience at a chain restaurant. After deciding that my love of food could be my career I almost landed at The Culinary Institute of America in New York but then had a change of heart and ended up at The Broadcast Center and getting into radio which some 17 years later is where I am now.
I have always been a story teller and while I loved working in the kitchen I was drawn to try something different where I could express myself in a different way and that took me to radio. Now I know you can express yourself through food but it turns out while I enjoy cooking a lot, I enjoy eating so much more.
I never stopped cooking and enjoying eating out. So after 15 years in radio doing marketing and some on-air work, including The KSHE Food Dudes, I now try to bring it all full circle and tell stories about food.
I have always found joy in food be it eating a great meal prepared for you, cooking for yourself or watching someone enjoy your creations. Most of all sharing the experience of food makes me happy.
I hope to show you fun places to eat, drink and shop, introduce you to interesting people in the food scene, take you to fun food events and give you a glimpse of what’s happening through the experiences of one man’s stomach.
The need to eat unifies all living things.
